- to eat when I'm hungry
- to not eat when I'm not hungry
- to use my common sense to avoid going extended periods of time without eating
- to use my common sense to not eat if what I really want is a nap (or something else)
- to eat what I'm craving
- to use my knowledge of nutrition in a reasonable, healthy way
I'm not exactly sure how I'll know when I'm eating informedly intuitively...
But I'll know I'm NOT eating informedly intuitively if...
- I'm only eating things for which I can count calories
- I'm eating with a certain calorie target in mind
- I'm eating only at certain hours (ex: B @ 8; L @ 12; S @ 3; D @ 7) even if I'm hungry in between those hours and even if I'm not even hungry at those hours.
- Only eating foods that were/are on my meal plan, that I'm used to eating, that I "know" are okay.
- If I'm thinking in terms of exchanges as I create a meal.
Great goal. I think we all need a bit of help to eat informedly intuitively. Loving these daily updates!

I just had my first meeting with an outpatient nutritionist and we spend like half an hour talking about intuitive eating.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll ever be able to get there though....
This is really helpful - I still struggle with intuitive eating and often cling to rigid routines. Sure I'm eating enough, and at a healthy weight, but it's hard to listen to hunger and be flexible sometimes...

One of my goals also - thanks for putting it into a more concise verbalization. "Intuitive Eating" is so abstract. I want to just trust myself to just eat intuitively but being new to this recovery thing my dietitian wants me to balance intuitive eating with a meal plan. Hard to balance the two, they seem like such opposite ends of the spectrum. Thanks for the update

ReplyDeletemy replacement "blog" of sorts...
Couldn't have said it better! Id like to write these goals down and adapt them to my own use.
ReplyDeleteAlex, do it! do it! Let's keep a "live list" (live meaning it can ever be changing) of goals!
ReplyDeleteLiv - thanks for the comment. It certainly is abstract.
MB - why hello! welcome back!
Sarah - I'm glad you found it helpful.
Eliza - you WILL get there!
