Kay, electronics unplugged. I should be safe tonight haha. And, no, no one ever talks about sleep eating. It is the most maddening thing ever! It's like "I ddidn't even have a chance to stop myself! no fair!"
The fro yo store was freaking BUSY BUSY BUSY tonight. OH EM GEEEEEE. And why are some people friendly and nice and others aren't. This one guy was such a loser (Because he wasn't nice) and so I tried to cheer him up but it wasn't working.
I love serving frozen yogurt. See, okay, I have an issue when food servers rush. If I go to subway and then rush to make my sandwich - if they throw the toppings on and then roll the sandwich in the paper quickly, I won't eat my sandwich. I feel like they just put a bunch of anger in my sandwich and it makes me tense. And, at starbucks, if I see them "dump" the milk into my latte instead of "lovingly, prod" it into my latte, I won't drink it either. Like, "Hello, barista, put some love in my drink please!"
So, I try to make everyone's fro yo with love. I don't throw toppings on. I lovingly, gently, place them on. And I don't frantically swirl the fro yo. I swirl with care.
There are some regulars who joke with me. "Oh, the perfectionist is working." One time, one guy said, "You make it with love." And I got excited and said, "THAT'S WHAT I TRY TO DO! YAY! THANKS!"
Today a woman said, "That is perfect! Your swirls are so perfect!" Well thank you, maam. They also are filled with love.
And sometimes I judge people's flavor choices. And I tell them that too. Like, today, some guy was like "Can I have the lemon please?" And I said, "Um... maybe. If it's what you really want then okay. But, first, try the tart/orange swirl and compare it to a taste of the lemon. Now tell me what you want?" He tried it and he chose the tart/orange swirl. And some woman today ordered Kookie Mint Krunch with gummy bears. Ew. And I asked her if she was sure. And she's like, "yeah. it's good." And I was like, "I can think of ten million toppings that would go better with mint, but if you like then okay - but I am judging you." I was kidding of course and she knew it. She laughed and ordered "Extra" gummy bears to prove a point.
And some drunk guy came in tonight, leaned over the counter and said, "Sweetie... make me a concoction." hahahaha. That was so much fun to make! I told him to give me a price limit to assist in my concoction production. He said $10. I asked him if he would say $10 if he were sober too. He laughed and said, "Probably not." I said, "How bout I make it a $7 concoction. So you don't regret it." And he said, "Why don't you also just write me a note reminding me that this even happened and I'll stick it into my pocket b/c I'm not gonna remember anything tomorrow." I said, "Oh, that's good and healthy. Do you walk or drive home?" Thank goodness he was on his feet. I told him to sit in a chair until he can walk better so he doesn't get hit by a car. He obeyed.
Anyway, came home and had a snack - to prevent sleep eating since I was kinda hungry. Plus, I didn't actually have dinner sicne I had a late B and a late lunch (at around 4:30pm). I'm not tired quite yet so I think I'm going to fold laundry then take a shower.
Tomorrow I work at the fro yo store 9am - 3pm. And I'm meeting a former colleague/friend for dinner at 5pm. I think I'm going to ride my bike everywhere tomorrow. It'll be fun. AS long as I can get home before it's dark. I'll have to calculate it and it will be quite a lot of biking, but I think it'll make my day exciting for me. It should take me an hour to bike to the fro yo store but I'll leave at 7:15am just in case. I'll probalby be there way early. And it should take me about an hour to bike from fro yo store to dinner, so that's doable. I'm only concerned about biking from dinner to home - b/c I'm not sure how long that'll take and it'll be getting dark. If I leave by 7pm I should be okay I'd think.

I love how you make your frozen yogurt with "love"...that was so cute...this whole post just made me grin from ear to ear...you have a way with words and apparently people as well...Drunk or sober:)..this was a great read!!!
ReplyDeleteLove, Z
Thanks, Z :)
ReplyDeleteBiking is so much fun in my area. It's also the "cool thing" these days. Is everyone doing it in your area of town too?
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that you are so careful with your frozen yogurts. That is so amazing. I felt myself identifying with you as I reflected back to my barista days, when every drink I made had to be exquisite. It wasn't Starbucks, so I had the time to do it a special way.
It really shows your loving spirit that you treat customers the way that you do. And it also shows a glimpse of your niche for fine art. I don't know exactly what you do, but you are artsy. I can tell.
I hope you have a great day today!!
Love, Jena
Hey Jena,
ReplyDeleteI teach middle school. Teaching definitely isn't for me long term though. It'll be my third year teaching this coming fall. I assume it'll also be my last year (but I'm open to all of the sudden changing my mind).
As for artsy - I did gymnastics my whole life growing up (age ? - age 18) and diving in college (age 18 - 22 on and off.... off when my eating was bad and I didn't have the energy). I also was always in plays growing up and was a drama major (as well as a political science major) in college. I've never done studio arts besides a few classes in high school and college, but I love drawing and making collages.
You are artsy too. Your blog is beautiful, and you said you collage. Oh! That's right! I wanted to e-mail you to see your collages. I will do that.
Those were fun fro yo stories!! Yeah, the gummi bear combo sounds nast!!! You can't mix that with chocolate. That's weird. Go drunk guy!! You should have made him a 4 dollar concuction and given yourself a big tip. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHi Jena, I've just stumbled across your blog and I'm so pleased that I did, because your writing is brill and v funny! I've just started my own blog about my battle with binge eating and I'm hoping that putting some things down in words might help a bit.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to reading more!
Hi Princess,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if you were talking to me (writer of above blog) or Jena (who left a comment). If you were talking to Jena, I agree! If you were talking to me, thank you! And, if you were talking to me, my name isn't Jena. In Blog World, I'm known as "Now." You might have thought my name was Jena b/c two comments above yours, I responded to Jena's comment and wrote "Hey Jena."
Anyway - hope that clarifies something...
I look forward to reading your blog :)
Hi Now, I'm sorry my mistake, I meant to write to you! Am a bit new to all this. Today is the first day of my new start (for the zillionth time!) so I'm just eating breakfast before work, while I read your blog. Hope I can stay on track today. Really enjoying your blog.
